Black Rapid Straps

We have some great new products in house this week. New items are the Black Rapid Straps. We now stock both the single (RS-4 and RS-5) and double (DR-1) camera straps. The straps are so neat, I really suggest coming in to look at them yourself. Its so hard to describe how wonderful they really are.

The RS-4 single strap is the most basic of the three. It holds one camera and has an over the shoulder strap. It is very comfortable and distributes the weight across your shoulder instead of on your neck. This helps alleviate some neck pain!

The RS-5 single strap is very similar to the RS-4 single strap, but it is a little wider for additional support and also has a cell phone pocket. My big Samsung Magnet fit in the pocket (its just a little smaller than a Blackberry) so most likely your cellphone will too (you can try it before buying it of course).

The DR-1 double strap holds two cameras! It holds one camera on each side of your body and is a harness that covers over both shoulders. The strap is extremely comfortable, even having two cameras with large heavy lenses on it. One of our employees owns a DR-1 double strap and two very large cameras (Canon 5D MkII and Nikon D3) and he wore the harness over the weekend for a photo shoot and said his shoulders were not sore at all. He is very used to having sore shoulders after a long weekend of shooting. If you are a professional photographer with more than one camera, you’ve got to check this out.

I have failed to mention one small detail, the straps attach to your camera in threading for the tripod mount. Its a little weird to get used to having your camera hang upside down, but its very safe and is actually very easy to access. The straps are sleek black, which is very nice and professional looking.

July Display

This week, I’d like to share with you news from inside the store including specials,a neat product, our new display, and a warning from Canon. We have introduced a new special this past week that I think you will find interesting, to say the least. It will save you money and its fun at the same time.

What I’m talking about of course is Happy Hour. We have started offering 19 cent prints on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 pm to 6pm. They are our next-day high quality lab prints and of course the offer is subject to change without notice, but for now we are offering this service. The normal price is 35 to 29 cents per photo depending on quantity, so you are saving a lot of money and still getting our high quality print. Omega is great because our printer looks at each of the high quality lab print photos and color and density corrects them so your photos are looking their best! This service is included in the Happy Hour prints as well. We make each of our prints with care.

The neat product of the week is called the Media Tube. The Media Tube is a high definition card reader for your HDTV. You simply hook up the Media Tube to your television with the supplied component cables and voila! Your pictures will be displayed in stunning 1080i definition. It can play digital photos, MPEG movie files, and MP3 music files all on your television. Also, you can use the Media Tube as a universal card reader with either a PC or a Mac. It allows for high speed transfer of your photos, music and movies to your computer. It even comes with a remote control!

This month we are featuring artist, Stephanie Haller. She is showing thirteen images displaying nature and kids. She received her Bachelors degree in Journalism and Public Relations from Humboldt State University. Stephanie is an award winning photojournalist, who enjoys photography, design, journalism and public relations. Her company, Stephanie Haller Photography, specializes in children and family portraiture. They will be branching out into wedding photography by the end of 2009.

If you have a 5D Mark II, you’d better listen up. There is an unofficial firmware update from a non-Canon website that may harm your camera. If there is a firmware update, it will always be released from the Canon website. Canon does not endorse this firmware update no matter what you may have heard. The firmware update promises to increase low light capabilities and adapt a wide range of lenses. This unofficial firmware update has no relation to Canon and installing non-Canon firmware may render your camera unusable. In short, if you didn’t get the firmware from Canon, don’t use it.

And so, I say goodbye for another week. I hope you enjoyed the blog this week. I think I gave you a lot of content, but I am hoping you found some of it useful. Thanks a ton!

DVD Slideshows

The product I’d like to feature this week is our DVD slide-show. This service takes approximately 2 to 3 days from digital files and 5 to 7 days from hard copy photographs. It may take more or less time depending on your needs. The DVD slide-show starts at $34.99 and includes placing your photographs into a movie format for your DVD player. Music can be added at no charge, but you must supply it at the time you place the order.

I can make a DVD slide-show from either digital files or hard copy photographs. If you bring in the hard copy photographs, they will first need to be scanned. You have the choice of a high resolution scan for $3 per photograph or a low resolution scan for $30 for up to 100 photos plus 30¢ per photograph after the first 100. When I finish your DVD, I will put it in a nice DVD case with a nice DVD case cover.

Check out the classes tab. It has been updated with new information about the classes we are offering. We have scheduled some classes for your convenience on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. There is even a Saturday class!

New In Store

Welcome to the Omega Photo Blog. This is a great reference for the current happenings in the store or in the camera world. Today I will bring you only news from inside our store. It’s great news, in fact. We have new products and offerings!

New to the store is the movie night with question and answer session. We are now in the process of taking down names and phone numbers of interested parties. We plan on calling these individuals when a class is scheduled. The first session that we would like to offer is for the Nikon D80 camera. The session would include a showing of a popular Nikon D80 instructional video and a 30 minute question and answer session. The session will be lead by one of our expert staff members. For only $9.99 you can be a part of this great session. You will learn everything from auto modes to more advanced topics like white balance and metering. You can register in store or by simply calling us.Contact Us

Also new to the store are Holga cameras. These plastic toy cameras give great effects to your photographs. We have gold, blue, black, and a black one with a flash. They take 120 sized film, black and white or color film. In store we have brochures on using them, as well as a few “Holga Experts”. Come in and check them out; they are on display in store.

Think Tank Bags are also new in store. They are really great! The Think Tank Bags are innovative solutions to problems with bags that professionals (or anybody with a camera really) may encounter. They offer a camera bag that looks like a standard luggage bag in order to reduce the chance of your gear being stolen. They’ve also got a few bags optimized for travelers. These bags are specifically sized for domestic or international travel. Come in and check out our supply!

Omega Photo will be closed Sunday June 7, 2009. We will be remodeling so it would not be safe to enter the store! We are replacing the counter tops, it will look great after we’re done I hope. I do apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause. Make sure to come in Saturday to see our current set-up one last time! Actually we have already remodeled some, but its still the same Omega Photo.

As always, thank you for reading the Omega Photo Blog. It’s great to be able to give you so much information. I do hope that you find our information helpful and informative. If there is anything you would like to see in the blog, just let me know, either in store or leave a comment. Have a great day!
